Wire Series Coffee Table, creating a more meaningful and systematic interaction.

Year: 2016

Materials: Steel, Marble & Brass

The wire series coffee table is a direct result of the exploration and investigation into the relationship between passive and active objects. Passive objects are those that indirectly interact with user, requiring other objects, in order to initiate the interaction. Due to this, they are often considered secondary in the experience, resulting in a banal and mundane form that provides the user with a limited and meaningless experience.

Inspired by the grid system usually seen in 2D graphics, the wire series coffee table is designed to apply a systematic design philosophy to enhance the relationship between the passive table and active objects initiating the interaction with the user. Achieved through a wire surface that allows for the corresponding designed surface objects to be picked up, moved and placed by the user through integrating forms. The objects are designed to serve different functions by the perceived affordance of the object.
